How to Care for Your Clergy Vestments and Make Them Last for Years

Read the Label First
Every vestment at Holy Clergy comes with care instructions specific to its fabric. Always read the label before washing. Polyester blends are generally machine washable on a gentle cycle while wool and silk vestments require dry cleaning or hand washing.

Washing Tips

• Always use cold water to prevent shrinkage and color fading
• Turn garments inside out before washing to protect embroidery and decorative trim
• Use a mild, color-safe detergent — avoid bleach at all costs
• Place delicate items in a mesh laundry bag for extra protection
• Never wring or twist vestments — gently press out excess water instead

Drying
Air drying is always the safest option. Hang your robes on a wide padded hanger immediately after washing to maintain their shape. Avoid direct sunlight which can fade fabric over time. If you must use a dryer, select the lowest heat setting and remove while slightly damp.

Ironing & Steaming
A garment steamer is the best tool for clergy wear — it removes wrinkles without direct contact that can damage delicate fabrics or flatten embroidery. If ironing, always use a pressing cloth between the iron and the garment and iron on the reverse side.

Storage
Store vestments in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Use breathable garment bags — never plastic — to prevent moisture buildup. For embroidered pieces, stuff sleeves gently with acid-free tissue paper to maintain their shape during long-term storage.

Professional Cleaning
